Dante: Mitchell posted our project grade last night.

Dante: It wasn’t good.

“Fuck. Fuck-fuck-fuckity-fuck,” I chant as I open a web browser on my phone and log onto the school server.

“What’s wrong?” Kat calls from the other room.

“My professor’s a massive asshole, is what.” I check my grades and— “The fuck.”

“What happened?” Kat asks, rushing into the kitchen.

“This,” I say and hold out the phone so she can see the zoomed-in sixty-nine percent Mitchell gave us.

Kat snatches the phone out of my hand. “No way. I don’t believe it. This guy is full of shit.”

Thomas crosses into the kitchen and takes the phone from Kat. “Why do you say that?”

“Because,” Kat says, snatching the phone back. “Emma doesn’t get D’s. Emma doesn’t get B’s. She’s a total closet nerd.”

Thomas’ brows climb his forehead. “Really?”

“Really,” Kat replies before I can make a sarcastic remark. You’d think I’d be used to people’s judgments by now, but nope. It never gets even a tiny bit less annoying.

“I’ve got to go.” I take back my phone, swipe my keys off the counter and stalk for the door.

“Wait.” Kat snags me by the elbow. “What are you going to do?”

“I’m going to confront that asshole and tell him to fix my grade.”

“And what if he says no?”

“I have absolutely no fucking idea.”
